Six Big Ten schools find their names in this week’s USA Today/Coaches Poll, more than any other conference. Not amongst those 25 schools are Indiana and Northwestern. Both are undefeated and unranked.
That’s eight of 11 programs that are either ranked or unbeaten. Pardon the high-fives (and high-sixes) being exchanged at the conference headquarters in Park Ridge, Ill. Then again, General Custer’s regiment was less of an underdog versus the Lakota Sioux than most Big Ten non-conference opponents were in September.
Of course, four of these eight will square off this Saturday as Michigan State hosts Wisconsin and Indiana is home versus Michigan. As the leaves prepare to fall from the trees, let’s take a cursory peek at which of these eight will fall from the ranks of the unbeaten or the polls before Halloween.
