_B_P7160.jpgThe East Kilbride Pirates are pleased to announce that they’re now one of a handful of American Football teams in the UK to be granted Community Amateur Sports Club status by HM Revenue & Customs.

This status allows the Pirates to claim gift aid on donations made to both their Senior and Youth teams, as well as giving them various other tax advantages. This means that more of the money the club receives can be channelled towards developing the team and buying new equipment.

Announcing the news, team Chairman Amanda McDonald said: “I’m delighted. We’ve been working towards getting this status for over a year and had to meet a very strict set of criteria. The big benefit for us is that going forward we can now claim an additional 25p from HMRC for every £1 donated to the Pirates. Even better, the sponsorship of individuals raising money for the club during fundraising events also qualify in full providing the Gift Aid rules are met. Plus, it’s a fantastic acknowledgement that we’re running the team in a proper and professional way.”
