NCAA Football 11: Help Me Make Me Some Picks! Week 5
Posted By Admin on October 23, 2009

NCAA Football 11 hasn’t quite had the juice in the intervening weeks that it had during the opening installment when it went 7-1. However, last week was a 6-2 effort–the best since the first week. The game improved to 21-11 picking the Slate of Eight. In Week 4, NCAA 11 picked against Auburn for the third straight time and it backfired for the third straight time. The other loss was a head scratcher, BYU over Nevada. You really can’t contain Colin Kaepernick. Having said that, the video game did correctly predict that Penn State, LSU, Miami, Boise State, Stanford, and Alabama would prevail. In fact, the game’s LSU pick was too real for comfort. A 21-0 lead, then giving up a TD with less than a minute to go in the first half and an eventual 7 point win vs. the reality of LSU trying to give away a 17-0 lead starting with a late TD in the first half and only winning by 6! STOP. BEING. REALISTIC. The Miami pick was also relatively close to the real game. Miami won the video game simulation 35-0 whereas the real life Canes beat Wannstache 31-3. How did NCAA 11 do vs. the Slate of Eight picks over at the ITB Free Pick’em Pool? A: 6-1, only the BYU-Nevada game was not one of the ten picks last week. I went 8-2 again and 6-1 in the Slate of Eight picks. I have to stop picking with the game when it comes to Auburn. The Week Five Slate of Eight is out, how has the game done picking the teams involved this week that have appeared before?
Alabama (3-0), predicted wins over Penn State, Duke and Arkansas; Penn State (2-0), predicted a win over Temple and a loss to Alabama; Iowa (0-1), predicted a win for Iowa against Arizona; Virginia Tech (1-0), predicted loss to Boise State; Miami (1-1), predicted a win against Ohio State and a win over Pitt; Stanford (2-0), predicted wins over Wake Forest and Notre Dame; Oregon (1-0), predicted a win over Tennessee; OU (1-1), predicted a loss to Florida State and a win over Air Force; Texas (1-0), predicted a win over Texas Tech. NCAA 11′s total record picking repeat teams in this week’s Slate of Eight: 12-3.
Week 5 Slate of Eight NCAA 11 Predictions (click read more to see the full list):
Texas A&M – Oklahoma State. NCAA 11: Texas A&M 21, Oklahoma State 3. Not much offense in this game. For instance, neither team got in the redzone. The 3rd down conversions were a combined 10/38. The 18 combined penalties didn’t help the offenses either. The Aggies led 14-0 at halftime on two Jerrod Johnson TD passes of 22 and 28 yards. The Cowboys could only manage a 45 yard FG and lost two fumbles in Texas A&M’s side of the field.
Penn State – Iowa. NCAA 11: Penn State 41, Iowa 21. The game began with the oddest play you could imagine: a Ricky Stanzi 66 yard TD run. Penn State answered with three TDs to take a 21-7 lead into halftime. Penn State’s QB Robert Bolden fumbled deep in his own territory while getting sacked to open the third quarter. Iowa scooped up the fumble and ran it back in to cut the lead to 7 points. Stanzi was completely ineffective after the TD run and turned the ball over twice during the next Penn State unanswered scoring run of twenty points. Iowa finally scored again with only 10 seconds left on a 56 yard bomb by backup QB James Vandenberg.
