College Football Premier League

Season Recap
In the previous article on college football reform, I unveiled the Second Division simulations. Now, it is time to release the results for the simulated 2010 Premier League.

The National Championship was played in Glendale, Arizona, between the Florida Gators from Conference A and the USC Trojans from Conference B. USC won the game 20-13. The teams had not met during the regular season and were not the favorites to make it to the title game before the playoffs started. Florida was the #3 seed in Conference A and USC was the #2 seed in Conference B. Instead, it was Oregon and Ohio State who had finished the season as the top teams in the Premier League. Oregon’s only loss was to the undefeated Buckeyes who had gone into Autzen Stadium and beat the Ducks 34-27 in the last week of the regular season.Oregon and Ohio State also featured the Player of the Year for their respective conferences, Darron Thomas and Brandon Saine. Both Oregon and Ohio State lost in their first game of the playoffs, the results of which you can see below.

As mentioned in the last article, Auburn, Michigan, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Texas A&M would be promoted from the Second Division to the Premier League for 2011. The six worst performing teams in the Premier League to be relegated to the Second Division are: Central Michigan 0-12, BYU 1-11, Navy 1-11, Troy 1-11, Ole Miss 3-9 and Utah 3-9.

One of the most surprising developments of the 2010 Premier League season was that the Boise State Broncos lost on their home turf two times (Miami and Texas Tech) and went 7-5 overall during the regular season. The Broncos were the #5 seed from Conference B in the playoffs and lost on the road to Alabama in the first round. USC, the team that eventually won the Premier League crown, was obviously the squad most aided by the non-existence of NCAA involvement in the Premier League. Allen Bradford took home the National Championship MVP Trophy with 160 yards rushing, 30 yards receiving and 1 TD in the Trojans’ win over the Gators.
