The East Kilbride Pirates elected a new committee at Sunday’s Annual General meeting, including the first ever woman to lead the team.
The event at the Westwood Community Hall in East Kilbride was well attended by players, coaches and supporters and saw Matthew Davies formally stand down as team Chairman after three and a half years at the helm.
A series of elections then took place to replace his vacant role, and those of all the other backroom positions that undertake the day-to-day running of the team.
Amanda McDonald stood unopposed and was unanimously elected to the role of team Chairman. She’ll be the first woman to take charge of the Pirates, and also the first woman to lead a Senior American Football team in Scotland. She commented: “Since getting involved with the team as Media and Marketing Manager in 2009, the Pirates have come to mean a lot to me. I’m really honoured to be leading the committee for the year ahead and I know we’ll all try our hardest to keep pushing the team forward.”
Former Chairman Matthew Davies is continuing to stay involved behind the scenes as Treasurer.
“I’m delighted that Matthew is staying on as Treasurer,” added Amanda. “Keeping a tight reign on our finances is crucial to the team’s success. And I’m equally pleased that Neale McMaster has made the step up from Ordinary Committee Member to Vice-Chairman this year – I know he’s going to be a great right-hand man.”
“It’s fantastic to see some more non-players getting involved this in the form of Mark Henderson as Gameday Manager, and Heather Spurling in the new role of Fundraising Manager. I’d also like to welcome back for second terms Al Wilson as Sponsorship Manager and Kenny Muir as an Ordinary Committee member. And last, but not least, welcome Blair McTague and Drew Boyle on board as new Ordinary Committee Members.”
“All in all, I think we have a fantastic committee in place for the year ahead. I’m really looking forward to working with everyone and excited about what we can do together for the Pirates.”
